![]() | Fr. Joseph D. Fessio, SJ, Th.D., AAI Chancellor, Fellow Chancellor of the Ignatius-Angelicum Liberal Studies Program and the Adler-Aquinas Institute, Fr. Fessio, is well known for his work in the area of Catholic education. He earned a B.A and an M.A. in Philosophy from Gonzaga University and an M.A in Theology from his studies in Lyons, France. In 1975, he earned his doctorate in Theology from the University of Regensburg, West Germany. His thesis director was Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger now Pope Benedict XVI. In 1978 he founded Ignatius Press. |
![]() | Peter A. Redpath, Ph.D., AAI Rector, Fellow Dr. Redpath was Professor of Philosophy at St. John’s University from 1970 to 2011. Author /editor of 10 philosophical books and many dozens of articles and book reviews; over 200 invited guest lectures nationally and internationally; co-founder of the Gilson Society (USA) and The International Etienne Gilson Society; former vice-president of the American Maritain Association; Founding Chairman of the Board of the Angelicum Academy; Member of the Board of the Great Books Academy; member Board of Trustees of the Institute for Advanced Philosophic Research; member of Board and Executive Committee of the Catholic Education Foundation; Academician of The Catholic Academy of Sciences (USA); former executive editor of Value Inquiry Book Series; former editor of the Studies in the History of Western Philosophy (SHWP), editor of the Gilson Studies (GS) special series for Editions Rodopi, B. Freeman Chair of Philosophy at Rockhurst University ; former Chair of the Philosophy Department and Teacher of the Year, he has authored four books on philosophy; twenty-two published philosophical articles and co-authored two novels. ![]() | Prof. Piotr Jaroszynski PhD, AAI Provost Prof. Piotr Jaroszynski holds the Chair of the Philosophy of Culture at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Poland. He works within the framework of classical philosophy and belongs to the American Catholic Philosophical Association, American Maritain Association and the International Society of Thomas Aquinas. He has written numerous articles and several scholarly books, including The Controversy Over Beauty (1992, 2002, in Polish), Metaphysics and Art (Peter Lang, 2002), and Science in Culture (Rodopi, 2003), as well as many books for the broader public. For his textbook Ethics: The Drama of the Moral Life (6th ed., 2002), he received the personal thanks of Pope John Paul II. |

Bertucci, AAI Dean of Students, Fellow As Director of online Great Books Programs since 2000, Steve has probably moderated more Great Books discussion groups (literally thousands) than anyone living. He speaks at educational conferences throughout the country and in Europe and serves on the boards of several nonprofit educational and arts organizations. Steve was one of the pioneers of live-audio online Socratic discussion groups after attending Mortimer Adler’s last Socratic seminars in 2000, and has taught at live Great Books Programs in Seattle. He lives with his family in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains in Washington State, and teaches Great Books worldwide with online students in over 40 countries. |
| Patrick S.J. Carmack, J.D., AAI Fellow, Executive Director After earning his Juris Doctorate, Pat completed postgraduate studies in psychology and philosophy. Former administrative law Judge at the Oklahoma State Corporation Commission, member of the U.S. Supreme Court Bar, former CEO of an independent petroleum exploration and production company, founder and former Chairman of the International Caspian Horse Society, and President of a non-profit educational foundation, Pat lives with his wife Elisabeth and their five children on Eagle Mountain overlooking Colorado Springs. Pat participated in Dr. Mortimer J. Adler's last several Socratic discussion groups in Maryland and California in 1999 and 2000, respectively, and moderated the first live-audio Socratic groups online (2000 AD) and numerous online groups since, as well as at Great Books evening programs in Seattle. He has been a speaker on educational topics at various conferences in the US. and Europe. He is the recipient of the 2009 International Etienne Gilson Society's Pope John Paul the Great Thomist Humanist Award for his work in education. |
![]() | Rev. Msgr. Ricardo Coronado Arrascue, J.C.D., AAI Fellow Rev. Msgr. Ricardo Coronado Arrascue has studied Theology, Civil Law, Education, and Pastoral Theology. He received his J.C.L at Pontifical University of Mexico, magna cum laude in 2001. In 2004 he went on to receive his J.C.D. from Pontifical University of Salamanca, Spain. He has taught Canon Law at Saint John Vianney Theological Seminary. As well, he is Professor of Philosophy at San Jose Seminary in Cajamarca. Rev. Msgr. ![]() | Scott J. Bloch, J.D., AAI Fellow Scott J. Bloch, J.D., received his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law after receiving his B.A. in English from University of Kansas. He has since worked in numerous positions within the government, including the Department of Justice as counselor to the U.S. Deputy Attorney General. For five years, he headed up the independent U.S. Office of Special Counsel enforcing ethics laws and combating waste and fraud in government agencies based on whistleblower complaints. He is the founder of the Hillaire Belloc Society of Washington D.C. and co-author with Fr. CJ McCloskey of a collection of the writings of Hilaire Belloc, The Essential Belloc from St.Benedict/Tan (2010) and a member of the Knights of Malta. His writings have been featured in Catholic culture magazines such as Caelum et Terra and Shakespeherian Rag. In addition, he has made appearances on CSPAN, CNN with Ed Henry, John Roberts "American Morning", NBC Nightly News, and National Public Radio. He has an international law practice in Washington, D.C. representing whistleblowers on government fraud in contracting and those who have been injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. |

![]() | Raymond Dennehy, Ph.D., AAI Fellow Raymond Dennehy was born in San Francisco in 1934 and is a Professor of Philosophy. After serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the heavy cruiser, USS Rochester (CA 124) as a radarman, principally in the South China Sea, from 1954-58, he attended the University of San Francisco, obtaining a B.A. in philosophy in 1962; he did graduate study in philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley, 1962-64, before entering the graduate philosophy program at the University of Toronto, getting a Ph.D. in philosophy from that school in 1973. Among his teachers were Karl Popper, Anton Pegis, and C.B. MacPherson. His areas of teaching and research interest are metaphysics, epistemology, and social ethics. Dennehy is frequently called upon to address contemporary ethical issues by universities and the media. Besides many scholarly articles, he has published: Reason and Dignity, Christian Married Loved, Anti-Abortionist at Large, and Soldier Boy: the War Between Michael and Lucifer. He is married to Maryann Dennehy and has four children and eleven grandchildren. |
![]() | Lois M. Eveleth, Ph.D., AAI Fellow Dr. Lois M. Eveleth graduated with her B.A. in Classics from Salve Regina College. She went on to study Philosophy at Loyola, receiving her M.A. As well, she received an M.A. from Providence College in History. Her dissertation was "A Grammar of Nature: Structuring Categories for an Emersonian World-View", and she received her Ph.D. from Walden University in Philosophy. Dr. Eveleth is a professor and holds Chair of the Philosophy Department at Salve Regina University. Her research interests include Intellectual History, Ethics, and American Philosophy. Some of her recent publications include: "John Locke and the Problem of Toleration", "Managing the Uncertainty of Ethical Codes", and "Toleration, Offense, and Logic". She was an invited participant to the Fides Et Ratio Conference at Thomas More College, a great books university in Merrimack, NH in 2011. |
![]() | Richard J. Fafara, PhD, AAI Fellow Dr. Fafara received his M.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Toronto where he attended Étienne Gilson’s public lectures. Dr. Fafara did graduate study under Professor Ferdinand Alquié in Paris, and held a post-doctoral fellow at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology at the Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, where he studied 17th century Polish philosophy. He has taught philosophy at the University of Toronto, University of New Brunswick at St. John, University of Saskatchewan, George Mason University, and Northern Virginia Community College. His publications include: The Malebranche Moment: Letters of Etienne Gilson and Henri Gouhier (1920-1936); articles on various 17th century philosophers, and contemporary Thomists; and translations of Polish philosophers. |
![]() | Desmond J. FitzGerald, PhD, AAI Fellow Professor of Philosophy, Emeritus. B.A., University of Toronto; M.A., University of Toronto; M.A., University of California, Berkeley; Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley.Des was a student of Etienne Gilson at the Pontifical Institute of Medieval Studies, Toronto. He taught with Fr. Joseph Fessio and Ray Dennehy at Univeristy of San Francisco. While teaching at USF he worked with Mortimer Adler's Institute for Philosophical Research. That work began with helping on the Index to Vol.I of The Idea of Freedom and then doing research for V0l.II, The Controversies about Freedom. There followed work on the first volumes of The Great Ideas Today, Des worked with Peter Wolff and Seymore Cain (who later wrote a book on Gabriel Marcel). About 1963 the Institute moved to Chicago where John Deely came to work. Dr. Fitzgerald said recently in Tiburon conversations that Adler was one of the great philosophers of the 20th, century not sufficiently appreciated because he had the style of a successful executive - which he was also - not a poor academic. |
![]() | Enrique Martinez Garcia, Ph.D., AAI Fellow Dr. Enrique Martinez Garcia holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy and Education Sciences from the University of Barcelona and is the Titular Professor in the University Abat Oliba CEU. He also serves as the Vice-Chancellor of Academic Affaires and the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Director of Espiritu, the philosophical journal since 2009, and a member of the Scientific Council of the Annals of Cultural Studies at John Paul II Catholic University in Lublin since 2012. He has published articles as well as in books on topics such as Metaphysics and the Philosophy of Saint Thomas Aquinas. He has been a member of the International Society of Thomas Aquinas since 1994, as well as an Ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of Saint Thomas Aquinas since 2006. |
![]() | Herb Hartmann, Ph.D., AAI Fellow Dr. Hartmann received his philosophical education at the University of Toronto from 1972 through 1979. During his years there, he studied with Father Weisheipl, O.P., Father Owens, CSSR, Father A. Maurer, Prof. K. Schmitz, Prof. L.E. Lynch, Prof. Alan Bloom, and Prof. Anton C. Pegis. In addition to his studies at the University of Toronto, he attended the classes of Hans-Georg Gadamer for two years at McMaster University. He began work on his dissertation, “St. Thomas and Prudence”, under Prof. Pegis, but after his death, completed it with Prof. Lynch. Dr. Pegis had chosen him to be one of three inaugural professors at the Center for Thomistic Studies at the University of St. Thomas in Houston. Following the death of his father in 1979, he relocated to Chicago to manage and oversee the family business, but he continued to teach full-time and part-time for thirteen years (as other responsibilities permitted) at Loyola University of Chicago. In 1993, he was hired by Thomas Aquinas College as a Tutor. During his 12 years there, his courses ranged from Astronomy and Euclidean Geometry to Theology and Logic. In 2005, he was hired by Southern Catholic College as Professor of Philosophy, and again taught across a full spectrum of philosophy courses. Since Southern Catholic College closed its doors in April 2010, he has been Professor of Philosophy at Our Lady of Thornwood Seminary in New York. Beginning August 2012, he will be a clinical professor at the School of Philosophy at The Catholic University of America. |

Joseph Indelicato is Executive Manager of Caritas Consulting, LLC in Rochester, NY, President of the Catholic Education Foundation, Chairman of the Board and cofounder of St. John Bosco Schools. He has been Trustee of Keuka College and the Independent College Fund of New York, Chaminade Madonna High School, and the Council of the Universities of Western Civilization. After a 10 year career in education, Mr. Indelicato has been in the financial services industry for more than thirty years. He holds the designation of Chartered Advisor of Philanthropy from The American College. Mr. Indelicato's many accomplishments include founding the Catholic Education Foundation in 2001. The Foundation is a not-for-profit organization established in response to the emerging crisis facing Catholic education in the United States. Mr. Indelicato aspires to provide funding assistance through the Catholic Education Foundation to Catholic secondary schools, colleges and universities for student scholarships, teacher formation programs, and the recruitment and retention of quality educators. Mr. Indelicato graduated from the State University of New York at Stonybrook with an MA in Liberal Studies. He received his BS in Education at the University of Dayton. He and his wife, Gini, reside in Honeoye Falls, NY. They have one son, Joseph, daughter-in-law, Amy and two granddaughters, Alisabeth and Madelyn. |
![]() | Jim Kelly, J.D., AAI Fellow Jim Kelly is the President of Solidarity Center for Law and Justice, P.C., a public interest civil and human rights law firm based in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, which promotes religious and educational liberty through “friend-of-the-court” briefs filed in the Supreme Court of United States. Jim also serves as the Director of International Affairs for the Washington D.C.-based Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies, a professional law association with approximately 43,000 members who are lawyers, judges, law faculty, and law students. He is responsible for locating partner organizations in Europe who share the Federalist Society’s mission in promoting discussion about the importance of the rule of law, judicial restraint, and individual liberty. As founder and director of the Federalist Society’s Global Governance Watch project, Jim is responsible for monitoring developments in the field of international human rights law and the impact of UN global governance on national sovereignty. In 2005, President George W. Bush appointed Jim to serve as the Federalist Society’s representative on the U.S. National Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (“UNESCO”). For four years, Jim served as Chairman of the National Commission’s Social and Human Sciences Committee. Jim is the author of Christianity, Democracy, and the American Ideal, an award-winning book consisting of a compilation of passages from the writings of the French-Catholic philosopher Jacques Maritain. Jim earned his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Georgia; a Master of Nonprofit Management degree from Regis University, and a Master of Arts in International Relations from Salve Regina University. Jim resides in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife Lisa. He has two adult daughters. |
![]() | Thaddeus J. Kozinski, Ph.D., AAI Fellow Dr. Thaddeus J. Kozinski graduated from the Catholic University of America after his dissertation defense with distinction, "John Rawls, Jacques Maritain, and Alasdair MacIntyre on the Possibility of an Overlapping Political Consensus". Assistant Professor of Philosophy, Humanities, and Trivium at Wyoming Catholic College, he has taught courses on Philosophy of Man, Ethics, Politics, Aristotle's Organon, and Senior Theology. He is the author of "The Political Problem of Religious Pluralism: And Why Philosphers Can't Solve It". In addition, he has published over 20 articles and reviews. He is a member of the Society of Catholic Social Scientists, American Maritain Association, and many more. |
![]() | Herbert I. London, PhD., AAI Fellow Herbert I. London is President Emeritus of Hudson Institute. He served as the Institute's President from December 1997 to March 2011. He is professor emeritus and the Professor of Humanities at New York University. London was responsible for creating the Gallatin School of Individualized Study in 1972 and was its dean until 1992. This school was organized to promote the study of "great books" and classic texts. He is a graduate of Columbia University, 1960 and the recipient of a Ph.D. from New York University, He is the author and editor of twenty-two books and two plays. Dr. London's television program, "Myths that Rule America," he created a 47 part CBS series entitled "The American Character." He has been a guest lecturer on many major radio and television news programs and at colleges and universities and has appeared as co-host on the popular CNN program, "Crossfire." Dr. London is listed in the Outstanding People of the 21st Century; Directory of Distinguished Americans; Who's Who in Education; Who's Who in the East; Men of Distinction; Who's Who in America, Kingston's National Registry of Who's Who, and 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century. He is a recipient of honorary degrees from the University of Aix-Marseille, 1983 and Grove City College, 1993. He has received a Presidential Citation from N.Y.U., is a recipient of the National Pro-Am Achievement Award, was the 1996 recipient of the Martin Luther King Award from the Congress of Racial Equality for Citizenship Achievement, was the 1997 recipient of the Jacques Maritain Society Award, was the first recipient of the Peter Shaw Award for his exemplary writing on higher education and American intellectual culture. |

He is a member of the Washington, D.C.
